Enabling Digital Twins to Support the UN SDGs

Digitalisation has enjoyed rapid acceleration during the COVID-19 pandemic on top of already fast-paced expansion impacting almost every aspect daily life. Digital twin technology, which is considered a building block Metaverse and an important pillar Industrial revolution 4.0, also received growing interest. Apart from its significant contribution to intelligent manufacturing, there been considerable discussion implementation as yet undiscovered potential. This paper reviews current trajectory digital applications in supporting general sustainability, context 17 UN SDGs. Furthermore, it connects researchers readers different fields with aim achieving better understanding emerging technologies, values this technology brought support SDGs, identify areas potential for future research contribute remaining tasks Agenda 2030.
